The Tenuta Pian delle Vigne, 6km south of Montalcino above the Val d'Orcia, was purchased by Antinori in July 1995. It takes its name from a 19th century railway station on the property which is still used today.
The estate covers a surface area of 186 hectares, over 60 of which are planted with vineyards, 2h with olive groves ad 124h with woodlands.

All over 60 hectares of vineyards are planted with Sangiovese (locally called Brunello) at an altitude of 130m a.s.l., mainly south-east facing. The soil is mainly limestone and clay.
31 hectares have been planted in 1996 and are currently in full-production while the remaining 33h were planted more recently using five of the Montalcino Sangiovese Grosso clones and the best Sangiovese Antinori selections.

Thanks to the temperate climate the grapes of Montalcino often ripen two weeks earlier than other areas of Chianti and this ensured that the harvest can begin in mid-September.

Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 1995 DOCG was first presented on the market in early 2000.
