Bolgheri Rosato DOC
40% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot 20% Syrah and other red varieties
After a rainy autumn and a winter with low average temperatures and snow, the vegetation began its renewed growth about 12-15 days later than the previous year. However, to compensate for this the good weather in spring helped the process along and the vines developed 10 days earlier than previous years. June, July and August were cooler than usual with average temperatures of around 24 °C and plenty of rain in August. Although these factors affected ripening and subsequently the harvest, the grapes were healthy and ripe with good potential at the time of harvest, and up to the usual standard of recent vintages.
The grapes from the "Scalabrone" vineyard on the "Tenuta Guado al Tasso" estate in Bolgheri. Once harvested the bunches of grapes were destemmed and soft crushed immediately. Maceration took place at a controlled temperature (below 10°C) for 12-24 hours in order to obtain must with the right intensity of colour and without astringent hints. After a brief natural settling the clearest must was racked and began fermentation at a temperature below 18°C in order to preserve the fresh aromas of each variety intact. The wine obtained was kept in stainless steel vats at a low temperature without contact with the air until bottling. Alcohol : 11,5% Vol.
Tenuta Guado al Tasso# is located 60 miles southwest of Florence, near the medieval village of Bolgheri, in an area known as the Maremma. The 900 hectares (2,223 acres) estate stretched up from the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the hills, and boasts vineyards, wheat, corn, sunflowers, tomatoes and olive trees.
The vineyard (and subsequent wine) was named after a bandit named 'Scalabrone' who was native to this area in the early 1800s. The wine, while classified as a rosé, is quite unique with a particularly intense colour and bouquet. Due to its limited production, at present it is only available on a few specific markets.
Bright peony pink colour. Fruity aromas with refreshing grassy hints. A well-balanced tangy palate with a nicely lingering aftertaste.
