Bolgheri Rosato DOC
40% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot 20% Sangiovese
The beginning of spring was characterized by some rainfalls and temperatures slightly higher than seasonal average, favoring budding a few days earlier than normal, for the various varieties. These conditions resulted in excellent flowering and the relative vegetal cycle.
The rainfalls, during the first part of summer period, permitted a good vegetative balance of the vines also in the month of August, when there was a total ripening of all varieties.
This excellent condition produced more grapes per vine than desired for our quality production level. For this reason, during August, the red grape varieties were carefully selected and thinned in order to eliminate the excessive production.
During the first part of September the weather was particularly favorable and the grapes ripened perfectly.
The grapes used for this wine are grown in the vineyard known as 'Scalabrone' which is situated on the estate of '#Tenuta Guado al Tasso#' in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. After picking, the maceration of the Sangiovese grapes lasted about 12 hours, while the maceration of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes lasted for 24 hours at controlled temperature. This produced a must rich in colour but without any trace of astringency. After decantation at a low temperature (10°C), the must was racked and alcoholic fermentation took place at about 18°C. After this, the wine was transferred into stainless steel tanks (taking care to avoid contact with air), until bottling.
Alcohol : 11,5% Vol.
#Tenuta Guado al Tasso# is located 60 miles southwest of Florence, near the medieval village of Bolgheri, in an area known as the Maremma. The 900 hectares (2,223 acres) estate stretched up from the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the hills, and boasts vineyards, wheat, corn, sunflowers, tomatoes and olive trees.
The vineyard (and subsequent wine) was named after a bandit named 'Scalabrone' who was native to this area in the early 1800s. The wine, while classified as a rosé, is quite unique with a particularly intense colour and bouquet. Due to its limited production, at present it is only available on a few specific markets.
Intense 'red rosé' in colour and full of fruity, strawberry aromas. On the palate, well balanced with a good structure.(Ideal as an alternative to red wine in the summer).
